A Life in Paint: A Boaby Fisher Story is a retrospective exhibition by Scottish artist Andrew O'Donnell, who works under the name Boaby Fisher and is best known as the creative force behind the multi-award-winning musical project Beluga Lagoon. Bringing together artwork developed alongside the project over many years, the exhibition charts his creative journey through painting, music and storytelling.

Created using readily available digital software on everyday computers, the work shows what can be achieved through imagination, patience and experimentation rather than specialist equipment. Drawing on O'Donnell's background as a wildlife filmmaker and his lifelong connection with the natural world, the exhibition is rooted in Scotland's landscapes, wildlife and outdoor life. Rich in atmosphere, humour and detail, these paintings reflect the places, people and experiences that have shaped his work.

All of Beluga Lagoon’s profits from this exhibition will be donated to charity.

Our fabulous collective have joined together to create new work inspired by local stories, folklore & treasured books. This years' Editions theme was chosen to celebrate the annual crime writing festival, Bloody Scotland. MIS is thrilled to be taking part as one of the festival venues & is pleased to present original artwork reimagining thrilling stories, crime settings & landscapes. 

The Day We Cleaned the Sky

Join us to celebrate the exhibition on Friday 21st August, 6pm - 9pm, drinks Reception.

What if the future remembered us differently?

Step inside and enter a story told from the future. This installation expands on an animated folktale, developed in response to working with Dunblane Primary school children and learning about the importance of Greenhous Gas removal: imagining a time 500 years from now when people look back and celebrate the moment humanity restored balance.

The story revolves around the idea that representatives from various ecosystems of our planet – forest, sea and bogland - come together to remove carbon from the atmosphere. They do so by illustrating some of the ways scientists are exploring – planting more forests, restoring peatlands and trapping carbon rich seaweed deep underground.

And in this journey to a clean sky, the children from the modern world witness the compassion needed for the planet. They must show love and care to the living things around them – the swifts – to restore harmony.  Swifts live almost entirely in the sky and so in this tale, they are the ambassadors – helping to pull carbon down and cleaning up.

The exhibition will show the animation with its beautiful original soundtrack by David Ford, as well as development paintings that explore the creatures and habitats of the story.

The work of the school children will also be on display. They explored their own ideas of how they might clean the sky, from solar powered hoovers to forests planted in the clouds, and how they might celebrate ‘Clean Sky Day’ in the future.

The work draws on folktale traditions from around the world, but instead of retelling the past, it imagines a future memory. Through workshops with young people, the project asks what greenhouse gas removal might mean to the next generation — not just as a scientific concept, but as part of everyday life and storytelling. 

 “Children don’t just inherit the future — they help shape how we imagine it.”

The project connects to greenhouse gas removal as one of many ways we might respond to climate change, while foregrounding the importance of creativity and intergenerational thinking. 

About the artist
Selina Wagner is an award-winning animation creator and storyteller, working with communities to explore future narratives through film and participatory practice.

Come along to work with Selina Wagner, the artist behind 'The day we cleaned the sky' exhibition, to create some basic animations, learn about how to become involved in animation and what it takes to work in the world of cartoons. We'll create zoetrope sequences, flipbooks and decorate our own swifts to add to the exhibition.

Teenage Flicks is a solo exhibition of illustrated works by Scottish based Artist Jon Bishop, also known as The Grey Earl. With a long term love of film and cinema, this collection of works explores the movies which inspired this interest, from teenage discoveries of cult horror classics to an appreciation of storytelling through contemporary comedy drama. Featuring chest bursting aliens, dysfunctional families and ten pin ball wielding slackers, his varied exploration of film and genre are celebrated through these illustrated works.

Featuring original drawings, digital prints and 3D pieces, along with a programme of film screenings and talks, Teenage Flicks invites you to dive back into the movies that made us and explore the films that made the cut and inspired the artist.

Jon Bishop has exhibited his work in a range of venues, including The National Museum and has worked with clients from the BBC, Glasgow Museums, Stirling University, Perth Art Gallery and Wildhood Festival.

He works from his studio in the village of Comrie.

You’re also invited along to our special launch evening on Friday 5th June from 6-9pm for a glass of fizz, snacks, and a chance to meet the artist.

CHARLOTTE STRAWBRIDGE’S WHEN BEASTS SPOKE

Made in Stirling presents When Beasts Spoke, the debut solo exhibition by contemporary artist and writer Charlotte Strawbridge, from 28 March to 10 May 2026 across Galleries 1 & 2.

Rooted in the textures and rhythms of the Scottish landscape, Strawbridge’s oil paintings offer an intimate view of wild animals - capturing fleeting moments of stillness, vitality and quiet reflection. Working instinctively and often completing paintings in a single sitting, her use of alla prima technique lends the work a sense of immediacy and presence.

Rather than depicting animals as symbols, Strawbridge invites viewers to consider them as individual beings - and to reflect on what the natural world has to offer when we slow down enough to truly observe.

“Painting is my way of paying attention, and I’m drawn to quiet moments in the wild.” says Charlotte Strawbridge. “Encounters with animals make me feel grateful, connected, and wholly present. “When Beasts Spoke” invites you to pause and consider the world through non-human eyes. It’s a celebration of the gentle lessons offered to us by Nature, if only we take the time to listen.”

Alongside the exhibition, visitors can take part in a programme of events including palette knife oil painting workshops, a children’s writing competition (inviting visitors to write a short story for a painted “Squirrel”, with a prize of the original artwork for the winner), and the launch of Strawbridge’s illustrated art book, When Beasts Spoke, featuring visual stories inspired by the perspectives and quiet wisdom of the animals she paints.

Opening Night takes place on Friday 27 March (6pm–9pm) at Made in Stirling.

Made in Stirling Editions are back this year!

This time we challenged our collective to create art based around the legends and lore found in Scotland, and they delivered.

Made in Stirling Editions: Scottish Legends and Lore houses the work of x talented artists and makers from our collective, each finding inspiration in the country they call home.

Structurally Sound is an exhibition of drawings by Liana Moran, presented in both large and small scale. Inspired by the timeless presence of Scottish landmarks—from iconic buildings, rugged stone ruins to engineered bridges across water—her works trace how structures hold weight, create rhythm and reveal vulnerability. Through line, gesture, lots of mark making and composition, Moran invites viewers to reflect on the balance between stability and fragility of these architectural monuments.

Liana Moran has exhibited her work in a range of exhibition venues and festivals since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2010.  Liana’s work consists of large architectural drawings responding to the environment, structure and materials within our landscape. From big canvases with plenty of ink and lots mark making to smaller quieter studies of structures. She was shortlisted for The Derwent and Jerwood Drawing prize and exhibits widely. The Royal Scottish Academy Edinburgh, Pall Mall Galleries London to the very local DOK in Leith. Liana’s work was recently included in ‘The Edinburgh Art Book’. 
She works from her studio in Leith. 

"What Lies Beneath" is a collection of works inspired by the calm amidst the chaos.

The collection consists of pieces with dark, moody, and sometimes even chaotic skies, that have a calm foreground. This is a representation of how Daniel often feels. In his words:

"The sky reflects what's going on inside in my head, with the foreground being what people see. My mind goes at 100mph almost 24/7, but I tend to look pretty chilled to those on the outside."

Daniel believes that the opposite can also be true, with people being calm on the inside but considered to be chaotic by those outside.

Daniel describes his work as being a form of therapy. Each piece represents how he's feeling at the time of painting, and using oils to paint his skies is a much needed tool for him to keep going and get it out. 

Made in Stirling's bi-annual market is back!  

This Christmas Made in Stirling is welcoming an additional 42 artists and designers from all over Scotland. This curated selection can be visited every day from 10-5pm from the 2nd of November until the 3rd of January. 

The market consists of Scottish based makers that Made in Stirling has exhibited in their previous seasonal markets, such as Esther Kent, HooperHart, Faodail, Joy Nevada, Juniper Fox, and Emily Chappell. They are delighted to be showcasing the works of new artists, such as Carta Bianca, Anna Bilyk artist, Silver & Fern, and Yolla Studio.  

Made in Stirling’s Christmas market houses a multitude of unique arts and crafts, including Poetry, Lino Reduction Prints, Fine Art, Jewellery, Wood Turning, Photography, Textile Art, and more, which makes it the perfect place to pick up inspirations for this festive season. 

This showcase, in collaboration with Made in Stirling, is the Scottish Potters Association’s second exhibition in 2025. Running from the 13th of September to the 12th of October, and displaying the works of 44 members.

The Scottish Potters Association is a registered charity run by its members. They are driven by a collective goal to promote and encourage the making, appreciation, and development of Scottish pottery and ceramic craft, art, and culture. They provide information and opportunities for communication and collaboration between ceramic makers, artists, and the public. Through their activities, they aim to raise awareness for Scottish pottery and support their members in their development of the craft.

The work being exhibited by member have been created using various techniques including throwing, hand-building and sculpture. Using a variety of clays, including earthenware, porcelain and stoneware, the work on display has an exciting range of decorative styles. The pieces have been created through a variety of different firing techniques including electric, gas and raku kilns.

The Scottish Potters Association is open to anyone with an interest in pottery and ceramics in Scotland. SPA members include professional potters and ceramicists, amateur and hobby potters, apprentices, and students based in Scotland and further afield.

“SHE CARRIES THE LAND - Folklore of the Cailleach” is a solo exhibition by Scottish printmaker and illustrator Abbie Lois. Made in Stirling invites viewers into the myth-drenched world of the Cailleach - the ancient, shape shifting figure of Scottish and Irish folklore.

Known for her quiet detail, gentle lines and soft colours, Abbie’s work draws deeply from the wild landscapes of Scotland and the enduring power of myth. This collection brings to life stories of the Cailleach as healer, land-shaper, and guardian of wild animals - wolf, boar, raven and deer - creatures through which she roams the hills and haunts the edges of memory.

These screen prints and illustrations carry the depth of ancient stories, reimagined with quiet intensity and care. Through them, Abbie explores not only folklore, but the often-overlooked roles of women in myth and history - powerful, elemental, and ever-present.

More than images, these works are invitations: to slow down, to listen, and to reconnect with the land and the stories which echo through it.

An exhibition about Scotland’s community ownership journey over the last 100 years… and where we go next. 

This exhibition originally toured across parts of Scotland in Summer 2024 in partnership with the Travelling Gallery and was seen by close to 2,500 people. We are delighted to be able to take this back out 10 venues around Scotland in Spring / Summer 2025.

The exhibition acknowledges and celebrates the efforts, ingenuity and passion of all those involved in community ownership over the last century. The exhibition shines light on the tremendous collective effort of people across Scotland working together to make a better future for themselves and the nation; empowering communities and the land they live on, the land which they are custodians of.

Each work is rooted in the experience and knowledge of people deeply involved in community ownership and then honed and shaped by artists embedded in those places. Each process of creation was about reciprocity, sharing skills and collective vision.

It is important to contextualise these contemporary artworks within the larger land reform movement of Scotland, so woven through the exhibition are the milestones and accomplishments of the last one hundred years, and an invitation to look forward towards what the next one hundred years might hold.

Everything traces back to people and place; the stories of how people live, how they create a sense of belonging and how we live in harmony with the rest of the natural world. These artworks are about tracing the roots of this social movement to see what has flourished already, and to wonder what blossoms are still to come.

On display from the talented students of New College Lanarkshire’s Art and Design programmes is a vibrant showcase of diverse concepts, media, and techniques. This end-of-year exhibition represents the culmination of a full year of dedicated refinement, experimentation, and creative growth.

Throughout the year, students have worked instinctively and intuitively, developing bodies of work that both engulf and immerse. From personal exploration to bold, outward-facing narratives, this exhibition highlights the individuality and creative vision of each artist and designer. Every piece offers a distinct perspective, demonstrating the unique journeys and identities that have emerged from within the studio walls.

The 2025 cohort has been more than a group — they have become a creative family. Through collaboration, encouragement, and mutual support, they have nurtured each other’s growth and resilience. Their collective spirit is embedded in every brushstroke, every design, and every idea on show.

Many of the students exhibiting today are continuing their creative journey — progressing into further study at prestigious institutions such as Glasgow School of Art (GSA) and Forth Valley College, or continuing to develop their art practice independently. Their success is a reflection not only of their talent but also of their commitment, passion, and relentless pursuit of their creative ambitions.

We invite you to step into their world — to experience, to reflect, and to be inspired by the future voices of contemporary art and design.

Made in Stirling is proud to present Juljia Straizyte’s solo exhibition: Inner Landscapes.

Inner Landscapes is a solo exhibition divided into two parts: the General Series and the Rumi Series.  

The General Series features digital prints from original ink drawings, exploring the artist’s inner landscapes through a wide range of subjects.  

The Rumi Series comes from a month-long project in which the artist illustrated a different poem by Rumi each day. This project became a magical collaboration across centuries, as she responded visually to selected poems and meditations by Rumi, whose words continue to resonate deeply. The artist later compiled her favorite pieces into a zine, which has been warmly received. The works on display here are her personal selections from that series.

Made in Stirling is excited to host Mcblair Design’s first solo exhibition, where they celebrate their journey through reclaimed wood art since becoming a full-time artist in 2022. Made in Stirling is proud to see how Mcblair Design has grown over the years, and we cannot wait to see where they’ll go from here.   

About The Exhibition: 

A flock of bird boxes has made its nest in Made in Stirling! These bird boxes were designed and created by Alan Blair as a challenge to celebrate him turning 60. 

The exhibition highlights the skills Alan has acquired through his experiences of farming, welding, and a career in the recycle industry. He is passionate about bringing new life to discarded items, by turning them into unique pieces of art. The collection shown is a combination of his bird boxes, wooden landscapes, and larger pieces of furniture. His hope is that these pieces will encourage a more sustainable approach through recycling. 

The RSPB will also visit the exhibition on the 20th and the 26th of April to echo Alan’s message and teach visitors about small ways to help protect nature. Celebrating the Women Artists of our creative community and International Women's Day 2025, this exhibition presents a diverse and inclusive look at what it means to be a woman through various artistic mediums. IWD is a global movement of collective action driving gender equality and celebrating women's achievements.   

This exhibition is presented in collaboration with Creative Stirling, a female founded organisation which supports the arts and provides creative projects for the Stirling community. The Creative Stirling Venue at 44 King Street is a hub for creativity at the heart of the city constantly growing and evolving to support its network of creative talent.  

We support, celebrate and amplify the voices of women in our community and invite you to view their work through the lens of working towards a world that is more inclusive, inviting and equal.

Shonah Escombe’s first national solo exhibition is a showcase of her creativity and dedication to the art of glassmaking. Highlighting the beauty and versatility of glass as a medium. Immersing visitors in glass, connecting to the themes and concepts she explores throughout the exhibition. 

A celebration of her journey, thus far, with glass. Her skills in leaded glass, copper foiling, fused glass, and cast glass all on show. The works include original pieces from her “View from a Window” series, and works that are part of her degree portfolio. Shonah is excited to acknowledge her development and share her many accomplishments with you.

The exhibition includes the following installations:

• Tactile Nostalgia (2024)

  Glass | Light

  This installation investigates themes such as memory and identity, the correlation between them, and their fragility.  This pieces are inspired by Shonah’s early memories and the ways in which textures from that time can recall those same feelings.  She attempts to capture the essence of haptic memory and invites viewers to explore the unique textures and sensations that evoke nostalgic feelings.  

  The six glass cubes each represent a different tactile experience from childhood. From the comfort of a crocheted blanket to the harshness of tarmac when falling off a scooter, every surface tells a story of playful exploration and discovery.   

  Texture is an integral part of this artwork, so please feel free to pick up the cubes and discover each childhood memory. 

• Unpoppable! (2024)

  Glass | Cardboard | Light

  Created as Shonah’s take on the protective yet delicate form of bubble wrap, blending fragility and transparency as well as merging the delicate nature of glass with the familiar texture of bubble wrap.   

  This bubblewrap is unpoppable! 

• For the love of Glass (2025)

  Glass | Copper Foil | Light

  An installation of coloured harts creating a forest of light. The piece aids to study how light impacts the different colours, and aids to bring out the textures of the glass.

  The individual hearts are all slightly different whether in shape or colour.  

• Her Letter, Her Voice, Her Words (2023)

  Handwritten letter | acid etched glass | screen printed glass

  Three glass panels of 36cm x 26cm  

  Shonah rediscovered some handwritten letters from her late mum written to her in the 90s whilst she travelled around Australia. The script and words were instantly recognisable to Shonah. They took her back to a time when they had less access to more instant methods of communication. 

  Reading these letters now means more to Shonah than when she first received them - she can imagine and appreciate the love and kindness behind the act of sitting down and writing those correspondences. 

  Although this is a very personal project for Shonah, she hopes that the audience of this piece can be nudged into thinking about what is lost and what is gained from the ways we communicate today. 

• View From a Window Panels (2025)

  These windows are part of a series of panels and windows which Shonah has been creating for some years.  They recreate the view which you may catch when you’re looking out of a window in glass using various colours and textures which gives a beautiful abstract perspective of the outside.

  The windows here are reclaimed from an Edinburgh tenement and they have been made in a way to create a dynamic interaction between light, colour, and the environment, which offers a constantly changing scene as natural light shifts throughout the day.s.

The students from New College Lanarkshire are proud to present their exhibition at Made in Stirling.

This exhibition celebrates all that Rachel has achieved since starting as one of the Made in Stirling artists, resulting in an amazing body of work and a published book on her mosaics.

Rachel will have three collections on show:

• The Nature Collection

  This series draws inspiration from predominantly coastal and woodland habitats. From seaweed and rocks, to trees and lichen, the patterns observed in nature are translated into abstract artworks that have a distinctively organic feel.

  The Nature Collection includes mosaics that feature in Rachel’s new book, Mosaics Inspired by Nature. Signed copies of this book will be available to buy during the exhibition.

• The 100 Days of Nature Project

  This collection is the result of a challenge to create a small piece of art on a regular basis. The design for each mosaic is developed from a different photograph of nature. Each mosaic measures 2.5x3.5 inches, and will be displayed alongside its inspiration image.

• The Riverwoods Project

  Riverwoods is a partnership initiative designed to grow and restore healthy riparian woodlands and river systems across Scotland. This series of mosaics were created by participants in Rachels’ membership programme in response to issues highlighted in the Riverwoods Project. All mosaics in this collection are for sale and all proceeds will be donated to rewilding projects via Scotland: The Big Picture.

We are a collective of seven photographers, all of whom have honed our skills at Forth Valley College in Stirling, where we are pursuing various levels of study in photography. Our group spans across the HNC and HND Photography courses, as well as the BA in Art & Design with a specialization in photography. This diverse range of experience and perspective has culminated in a shared passion for the art of visual storytelling, which we are excited to showcase in our upcoming exhibition. 

This exhibition is a collaborative effort, organized entirely by us, in partnership with The Stirling Photography Festival and Made in Stirling. Through our work, we aim to highlight the depth and breadth of contemporary photography, reflecting our individual journeys as emerging artists. We invite you to explore the unique visions and creative expressions that each of us brings to this collective endeavour. 

Made in Stirling is proud to present Forth Shore Art Collectives inaugural exhibition: Gathering.

This exhibition contains an inclusive gathering of works from either side of the Forth where abstract, still life, landscape, portraiture, photography, print, and musical influences gather and connect as one, creating an extraordinarily powerful, not to be missed exhibition.

World renowned New York photographer Graham Macindoe is joining the collection as a guest artist.

Gathering will be shown in Made in Stirling’s Event Space, above the store. Come celebrate the launch on the 28th of June, from 17:30-late, or visit the collection until the 2nd of August at Made in Stirling Store.

This Exhibit brings together Jade Diamond’s Ceramic Trows & the return of Mia McGregor’s Cube Project to Stirling.

Born out of Jade’s imagination, the Ceramic Trows are her own interpretation of the mischievous mythical Scottish sprites divided into two clans, the Woodland Trows, and the City Trows. Woodland Trows reflecting their natural surroundings through colour, texture, and form only found in Scottish forests. The City Trows give off a louder vibe. Inspired by the diversity found within Glasgows bold and colourful street art. These Trows were intended to be shown surrounded by street art, a fit for their personality, so naturally, they’ve decided to invade The Cube Project.

The Cube Project, produced by Mia Mcgregor is Europe’s largest participatory event. 30,000 STRONG so far. The project encourages creativity and interactivity, offering its contributors an instant collaboration. Both Artists have previously participated in @yardworksglasgow - a global arts community.

Inspired by this collab & community, Made in Stirling are inviting you! Our visitor, to Gallery 2 to adorn our ‘wilkies lady’ with your art. The finished piece will become a permanent feature within the Creative Stirling Venue. Please stick to drawing on the ‘wilkies lady’ wall, not on any of the Artists work that is for sale.
