KILN HIRE

The Made in Stirling Pottery Studio offers kiln firing for potters and ceramic artists who need access to a reliable electric kiln for their work.

Our Skutt KM-1018 kiln has a capacity of approximately 130 litres and can be used for both bisque and glaze firings.

Its internal measurements are approximately 58.4cm width × 58.4cm depth × 45.7cm height.

Whether you have a small number of pieces or enough work to fill a kiln, we offer a range of firing options.

Firing Options

Bisque Firing

  • Half shelf: £20

  • Full shelf: £35

  • Whole kiln: £65

Glaze Firing

  • Half shelf: £25

  • Half kiln: £45

  • Full kiln: £85

Combined Bisque + Glaze Firing

If your work requires both a bisque and a subsequent glaze firing:

  • Half kiln – both firings: £80

  • Full kiln – both firings: £150

What does "half kiln" mean?

Half-kiln bookings are based on the amount of kiln space your work occupies. We will assess your pieces when they are brought to the studio and confirm the appropriate charge before firing.

We cannot guarantee that a particular number of pots, shelves or pieces will fit within a half or full kiln, as this will depend on the size, shape and quantity of your work.

Before We Fire Your Work

Before accepting a firing, we need to know exactly what materials have been used.

When you submit a kiln-hire enquiry, please provide details of:

  • The clay body or clay bodies used

  • The manufacturer and product name

  • The firing temperature/cone recommended by the manufacturer

  • Any glazes, slips, underglazes or other materials applied

  • The manufacturer and product name of each glaze or other material

  • Any other relevant information about the construction or decoration of your pieces

We may ask you to provide the original packaging, labels or other product information so that we can assess whether the materials are suitable for firing in our kiln. An in-person meeting may be required to confirm all details.

Please do not bring work for firing until your booking has been confirmed by the studio.

The Made in Stirling Pottery Studio reserves the right to refuse any firing where we are unable to establish that the materials are suitable, where the firing temperature is incompatible with our kiln or firing programme, or where we have concerns about the safety or condition of the work.

We cannot accept responsibility for damage to work resulting from unsuitable clay, glazes, construction or materials that have been used by the customer.
