Cailleach na Mointeach Digital print

£30.00

Digital print from Five layer original screen print.

42cm x 29.7cm

Inspired by the hill range on the Isle of Lewis, that is said to have been formed by the sleeping figure of a woman or giantess who went to sleep waiting for her warrior to return from battle. Every 18.6 years, the moon rises up and glides along her body from the south end where her ‘knees’ are. The standing stones of Calanais in the same area are seeped with lore, some linking the Cailleach to the site.

There are many mountains which are named after sleeping figures, all with their own unique stories of how they came to be.
