Made possible with funds from The National Lottery through Creative Scotland & our first step is to find new members to join our team. Studio Manager

The Studio Manager will play a central role in establishing and developing the Made in Stirling Pottery Studio as a welcoming, professionally run, and financially sustainable community ceramics facility. Reporting to the Creative Director of Made in Stirling CIC, the potholder will oversee studio operations, programme delivery, partnerships, memberships, and day-to-day planning.

We are looking for someone who can help build a strong studio culture, grow earned income, expand public engagement, and help position Stirling as a recognised centre for ceramics practice and learning.

Contract terms:

  • 18-month contract initially, with potential for extension.

  • Salary £28,600 p/annum

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience in ceramics, studio management, arts administration, or programme delivery.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of ceramics studio processes and safe working practices.

  • Experience monitoring budgets or income.

  • Commitment to inclusion, sustainability, and Fair Work principles.

Desirable

  • Teaching, facilitation, or community arts experience.

  • Experience managing a membership-based creative space.

  • Exhibition or curatorial experience.

  • Knowledge o Scotland's arts and craft sector.

  • Experience delivering funded projects.

Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee the day-to-day running of the pottery studio.

    • Manage memberships, inductions, bookings, and studio access.

    • Coordinate kiln schedules, stock control, maintenance, and equipment.

    • Maintain safe, professional, and efficient studio systems.

    • Support financial sustainability through budget monitoring alongside finance staff.

    • Plan and coordinate classes, workshops, masterclasses, residencies and outreach activity.

    • Schedule freelance tutors and visiting artists.

    • Contribute to exhibitions and public programming.

    • Develop programmes in response to community need and participant feedback.

    • Support interns, resident makers, and freelance practitioners.

    • Foster an inclusive, collaborative studio culture.

    • Build partnerships with schools, community organisations, and sector networks.

    • Develop outreach activity that improves access for underrepresented groups.

    • Represent the studio within Scotland's ceramics and craft sector, including partnerships with organisations such as the Scottish Potters Association.

    • Oversee the studio's digital presence, including social media and website content.

    • Promote classes, memberships, exhibitions, and events.

    • Work with the wider team on branding, storytelling, and audience development.

    • Use engagement data to improve communications and participation.

    • Ensure compliance with health and safety, safeguarding, and equality policies.

    • Carry out risk assessments and oversee safe use of studio equipment.

    • Collect participation, financial, and impact data for reporting and evaluation.

    • Contribute to long-term planning and sustainability.

Pottery Studio Intern (2 positions, rolling 6-month placements)

Made in Stirling Community Ceramic Studio is delighted to invite applications for our real living wage internship program. The internship runs for 6 months and we will be filling two internship positions in this round: 1st August 2026 - 30th January 2027, and 1st November 2026 - 30th April 2026.

Role Summary:

The pottery studio internship is a paid development opportunity for emerging ceramicists who want to build practical experience in studio operations, public program delivery, and professional practice. Interns will contribute to the day-to-day life of the studio while receiving supported time to develop their work.

Each intern is required to be in the studio for 40 hours per week (10am to 6pm five days a week, including weekends)

  • 20 paid operational hours

  • 20 personal practice hours.

The operational hours are designed to oversee the running of the studio and support our community members. Placement is designed to support early-career progression while strengthening the studio’s capacity, skills base, and future talent pipeline.

Contract terms:

  • Line managed by studio manager

  • 6 month contract

  • Salary real living wage £13.45 per hour.

  • 20 paid hours p/w

  • Hours will include some weekend working and evenings

Key Responsibilities

    • Supporting daily opening, closing, and routine studio procedures.

    • Assist with kiln loading, unloading, and firings.

    • Help maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.

    • Prepare materials, tools, and spaces for classes and workshops.

    • Support stock control and clay recycling processes.

    • Welcome members, participants, and visitors to the studio.

    • Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment.

    • Assist with inductions and basic technical support.

    • Support the delivery of workshops and classes.

    • Offer practical peer support to beginners and community participants.

    • Support public classes, demonstrations, exhibitions, and outreach activity.

    • Assist visiting artists and freelance tutors.

    • Contribute to community engagement work as required.

    • Support new interns and pass learning on to them.
