Mercat Neighbours Growing Project

Mercat Neighbours Growing Project Exhibition launches in our upstairs event space at Made in Stirling, 44 King Street on Thursday the 5th of May at 18:00.

Creative Stirling are collaborating with Mercat Cross Community Council on a project to explore green spaces with our community. We sent out seed packs with an invitation for residents to get involved in "Mercat Neighbours Growing Project" and included information about the project.

We began with a photography walk round the Mercat Cross at the Top of the Town with f5 Photography Collective on the 26 March. Community participants took our team to hidden spaces and green places around the Top of The Town, to talk about potential for community owned and designed spaces.

Conversations were held around the history of the spaces with memories and insights shared on previous plans and past conversations as well as sharing new desires to re-design green spaces in their community, exploring the imagined possibilities of creativity and growing.

The following week there was a creative collage and mixed media with artist Frances Ryan - Little Pink Dog – where our community worked together in groups or individually on large-scale photographic images of the spaces produced during the photo walk, to re-imagine the design of these spaces using magazines cuttings, and other graphic print media.

A second creative collage workshop was also held with Stirling Champs on April 23rd to redesign our communities Darnley Park.

Stirling Champs are a group of children and young people who are care experienced, who have a space located in the Mercat Cross community. The space "feels like home" to so many of the young people, so we felt it really important for them to have their say on what they would like to see in the community.

Three local artists; Frances Ryan (Little Pink Dog), Corinne Furniss (Ccorinnef) and Matthew Macmillan were commissioned to further develop the creative representations produced by the community using digital, illustrative and other techniques.

Come along on Thursday the 5th of May for our launch event. Find out more about the project, view the incredible work by locals and artists and enjoy some delicious food by The Kitchen at 44 and Ginger Roots.
