Set Design & Construction Workshop with Matthew MacMillan
Location: Creative Stirling
Date & Time: Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th June, 10am–5pm (with breaks)
With: Set Designer Matthew & Guest Scenic Artist
Cost: Free!
Ages: 13–18
An Introduction to Set Design & Construction
Curious about how sets for theatre, TV, and film are made? Join us for a free, hands-on weekend workshop where you’ll design and build a small-scale set — guided by professional Conservatoire set construction student, Matthew, who’ll share his inspiring journey from school to studying set design & construction at the Conservatoire.
Across two days, you’ll learn how to bring creative ideas to life — from concept sketching and planning to building flats and props using real tools (impact guns, drills, saws). On Sunday afternoon, we’ll be joined by a professional scenic artist for a special session on scenic painting techniques — adding texture, detail, and life to your set pieces.
This workshop is especially for young people aged 13–18 who may feel that traditional school settings don’t always suit their strengths, and who would benefit from a more hands-on, creative experience.
Spaces are limited — booking is essential!
All backgrounds, abilities, and identities welcome.
This event is delivered by Creative Stirling and funded by the Stirling & Forth Valley Arts Society, to allow us to empower young people to gain confidence, build portfolios, and explore futures in the arts.
