Skies painting workshop

  • Made in Stirling 44 King Street Stirling, Scotland, FK8 1AY United Kingdom (map)

In this painting workshop we will be covering Orla’s approaches to capturing skies. The aim is to explore methods of painting skies in an expressive way, building depth through layers of mixed media. We will be exploring the processes Orla uses in her own skies to capture light.

Who is this workshop for? This class is for all stages and abilities, and is for anyone who fancies giving partially abstract skies a go.

What will we cover?

  • Exploring colour, contrast and light to capture a range of skies

  • Creating Texture with a mixture of mediums and processes

  • Building Depth through layers of medium

  • How working from memory can free up our work

  • Painting Skies - working from both shared reference images and imagination, we will combine our learning from the workshop, to create a seascape, putting our own individuality and stamp on our final painting.

Orla’s Ethos: Orla’s approach to landscape painting is loose and expressive. The aim is to learn through having fun and play, which is essential to Orla’s practice in making energetic work. Orla’s classes are spaces to experiment, and make happy mistakes in a positive and welcoming environment.

Class Details: Through a series of Orla’s favourite exercises, we will paint a series of skies; working from the same reference image. Each exercise is supported with demonstrations by the artist. Each exercise has been designed so that you each have space to explore and experiment with a range of tools and approaches, to help you on your way in finding your artistic voice!

This class includes all materials. We will be working with acrylic paint, oil pastels and charcoal on papers. These sessions tend to get messy, so please bring an apron and wear old clothes.

Cancellations must be made at least 3 days prior to receive a full refund. If you have any questions or want more information please contact curator@creativestirling.org.
