Sense of Place workshop

  • Made in Stirling 44 King Street Stirling, Scotland, FK8 1AY United Kingdom (map)

Date: Sunday 28th of May, 12-3pm.

Cost: £55.

In this landscape painting workshop we will be covering Orla’s approaches to creating rich and meaningful paintings. We will cover a variety of approaches to painting: exploring music, memory, our personal experiences and more. These are abstract methods to capture a sense of place, and put your personal stamp on your painting.

Who is this workshop for? This class is for people looking for ways to refresh their painting, and find ways to paint beyond literal representation: for improving beginners to practicing artists. Maybe it’s been a while since you’ve painted, perhaps you’re feeling stuck on ideas, or feeling tight in your work? This workshop is more abstract in nature, and focuses on idea generation, process and exploration over producing a finished painting.

In this class we will cover exercises exploring:

  • What we mean by a ‘Sense of Place’

  • How to put more of ourselves into our work

  • How to utilise memory to free up our painting

  • How to use stories, words and text to create visual ideas

  • Ways to build our own visual language

Orla’s Ethos: Orla’s approach to landscape painting is loose and expressive. The aim is to learn through having fun and play, which is essential to Orla’s practice in making energetic work. Orla’s classes are spaces to experiment, and make happy mistakes in a positive and welcoming environment.

Class Aim: You will leave this class with a wealth of approaches and exercises to reinvigorate your painting, and add new layers to your work.

Class Details: This class includes all materials. We will be working with acrylic paint, oil pastels, collage and charcoal on papers. These sessions tend to get messy, so please bring an apron and wear old clothes.

Cancellations must be made at least 3 days prior to receive a full refund. If you have any questions or want more information please contact curator@creativestirling.org.
