In this seascape painting workshop we will be covering Orla’s approaches to painting water. The aim is to explore methods of painting water in an expressive way, building depth through layers of mixed media. We will be exploring the processes Orla uses in her own seascapes to capture mood.
Who is this workshop for? This class is for all stages and abilities, and is for anyone who fancies giving partially abstract seascapes a go.
What will we cover?
Creating Texture with a mixture of mediums
Building Depth through layers of medium
Exploring contrast and light to capture your interpretation of seascape
Painting a Seascape - working from one shared reference image, we will combine our learning from the workshop, to create a seascape, putting our own individuality and stamp on our final painting.
Orla’s Ethos: Orla’s approach to landscape painting is loose and expressive. The aim is to learn through having fun and play, which is essential to Orla’s practice in making energetic work. Orla’s classes are spaces to experiment, and make happy mistakes in a positive and welcoming environment.
Class Details: Through a series of Orla’s favourite exercises, we will paint a seascape, working from the same reference image. Each exercise is supported with demonstrations by the artist. In the last hour of the class, we will take our learning from each exercise and put in to practice to create a final piece. Each exercise has been designed so that you each have space to explore and experiment with a range of tools and approaches, to help you on your way in finding your artistic voice!
This class includes all materials. We will be working with acrylic paint, oil pastels and charcoal on papers. These sessions tend to get messy, so please bring an apron and wear old clothes.
