Beginner Landscape workshop

  • Made in Stirling 44 King Street Stirling, Scotland, FK8 1AY United Kingdom (map)

Date: Sunday 16th of April, 12-3pm.

Cost: £55.

In this beginner landscape workshop we will touch on a few of the main elements of painting a landscape. The aim of the class is to familiarise you with tools, materials and processes which are easily accessible and transferable, to take away and get started, painting with energy!

Elements we will cover:

  • Drawing: How to create relaxed and expressive drawings without tightening up

  • Colour: How to mix with acrylic paint, and achieve a satisfying balance of one colour palette

  • Composition: How to capture a representational composition, and create balance

  • Painting a Landscape: Bringing it all together, responding to a shared reference image provided by Orla. Be prepared to see how much rich variety is possible to achieve when working from one source!

Orla’s Ethos: Orla’s approach to landscape painting is loose and expressive. The aim is to learn through having fun and play, which is essential to Orla’s practice in making energetic work. Orla’s classes are spaces to experiment, and make happy mistakes in a positive and welcoming environment.

Class Details: Through a series of Orla’s favourite exercises, we will paint a landscape, working from the same reference image. Each exercise is supported with demonstrations by the artist. In the last hour of the class, we will take our learning from each exercise and put in to practice to create a final piece. Each exercise has been designed so that you each have space to explore and experiment with a range of tools and approaches, to start you on the journey of finding your artistic voice!

This class includes all materials. We will be working with acrylic paint, oil pastels and charcoal on papers. These sessions tend to get messy, so please bring an apron and wear old clothes.

Cancellations must be made at least 3 days prior to receive a full refund. If you have any questions or want more information please contact curator@creativestirling.org.
