Julija Straizyte is a freelance illustrator from Lithuania, currently based in Edinburgh. Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2017, she has been developing a diverse portfolio through both personal work and collaborative projects, including editorial illustrations, album covers, and poster designs. Her black-and-white illustrations are known for their dreamy, melancholic quality, often exploring personal observations, memories, and meditations. Julija’s work places a strong emphasis on character, symbolism, and the interplay of lines, shapes, and patterns, inviting viewers into reflective, thought-provoking spaces.

Exhibition Overview

Inner Landscapes is a solo exhibition divided into two parts: the General Series and the Rumi Series.

The General Series features digital prints from original ink drawings, exploring the artist’s inner landscapes through a wide range of subjects.

The Rumi Series comes from a month-long project in which the artist illustrated a different poem by Rumi each day. This project became a magical collaboration across centuries, as she responded visually to selected poems and meditations by Rumi, whose words continue to resonate deeply. The artist later compiled her favorite pieces into a zine, which has been warmly received. The works on display here are her personal selections from that series.

All prints are digital prints from original drawings.

having been cut from the source,

in celebrations, i laugh with those laughing
and in sadness, i cry with those grieving
the divine secrets are not separate from my cries
but only those who are cooked in the fire of love will hear them
these secrets are for the heart, not for eyes or ears
it is fire, not wind that makes me sing!
if you don’t have this fire,
you might as well be dead
oh, how can the uncooked
know the majesty of the fire of love?
if you meet the uncooked,
don’t sing, don’t preach
instead listen to my advice:
say goodbye and leave.
