Today, we’re kicking off our new blog series ‘Artist Spotlight’! We’ll be introducing you to some of our incredibly talented artists and makers, giving you more information on the work they do and any events/workshops they may be running.

First up is Rachel Davies Mosaic, who has been selling with us for nearly two years as well as running regular workshops at the hub. Rachel is a mosaic artist based in Dunblane who uses a range of material in her work, including slate, stone, and smalti. Speaking on the creative process, she says: “I believe that the process of making a mosaic can be therapeutic, whether it is the mindfulness and relaxation that comes from concentrating on placing individual pieces, or the social interactions that arise from working as part of a group”.

Due to lockdown earlier in the year, Rachel has moved her workshops online for the moment which have been a great success. Since starting in June, people from all over the world have been taking part, from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, France, Spain and Germany. There are still some spaces left on the workshops below:

We have some of Rachel’s amazing mosaic designs available to buy in-store or through the online store, from miniature ones to larger pieces. If you’re interested in seeing more of the creative process, be sure to check out the video below which shows how the mosaic pieces all come together.

You can keep up with Rachel’s work and information on any events she’s running on Instagram and Facebook.
